Croydon Tutorial College is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) with a goal of providing quality teaching, both distance learning, self-study and face to face.
Our mission is to provide educational, mentoring and consultancy services to students (both young and old) wishing to master new technological skills especially in the computer technology and embedded systems fields.
We are a specialist tutoring college based in Croydon, which is located near Sutton and Croydon (London, England) and specialising in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science tuition, as well as emergency help with homework or project crises. We also provide after school activities in computer programming and robotics, as well as coaching in more advanced computer programming.
We are a Cisco Netacad and can provide teaching and coaching for professional certification courses in Python, C, C++ and JavaScript programming, Linux command line and shell programming, IoT, networking and cyber security to both college age students and mature students thinking of a career change.
CTC can also provide teaching and coaching for students wishing to begin a career in data analytics and machine learning. For students without GCSE / A Level Maths we run intensive GCSE Maths, A Level Maths and A Level Further Maths courses.
Specialised computer courses include COBOL programming and teaching / progress coaching for students planning to study for the BCS HEQ Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications.
Croydon Tutorial College provides a wide range of courses, tutoring and teaching in a wide range of technical subjects including
GCSE and A Level STEM subjects (Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology)
Cisco Netacad sponsored programming courses in C, C++, Python and JavaScript leading to professional certifications at basic and intermediate levels
Teaching and progress coaching for students planning to take the basic and intermediate level Microsoft Azure Data Analytics certification exams.

Our Vision and
Principles
Our
vision and principles as a social enterprise company are exemplified
by the kinds
of classes we can run and the teaching we can provide.
A Level
Tuition for young people with Anxiety, Aspergers, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia
Croydon Tutorial College is actively considering starting up
small tutorial classes for students with aspergers, dyspraxia,
dyslexia, anxiety who are studying for their A levels but are
experiencing difficulties with certain aspects of their work. We can
provide tuition in a calm, non judgemental atmosphere where a student
will be encouraged to develop ways of working that are best suited to
their individual needs and personality. The subjects we cover are
Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Computer Science.
Enriching
the Standard Fare that is the School Curriculum
Some
students find the way A Level Science and Maths courses are taught as
very much focused on simply "getting good grades at GCSE or A
Level".
Opportunities for pursuing topics that enrich the standard "teaching fare" are in relatively short supply. Lack of opportunity for exploring "beyond the curriculum" can also be a handicap when it comes to doing well at interviews for university places for which there is much competition.
Tailored
Computer Science Programming
We run, on
request, courses on C /C++
, Java and C# programming for either young programmers with a
special interest in one of these languages
, or for those selecting one of
these languages for use in a
programming project.
Family
Oriented and Teacher Oriented Programming and Robotics Courses
We
can run
programming courses for parents, home educators and teachers who need
to get more proficient in their computer programming skills so that
they can better teach their children, or teach and understand what is
required of them in the current computer science curricula from the
major A Level examination boards.
For example, we have run courses for lecturers at Carshalton College and Port Talbot College in various aspects of RasbperryPi and Arduino programming such as Python, C and C++ programming and Bash shell programming introducing teaching modules involving the use of these technologies. and for teachers in the local area on Python programming for the RaspberryPi.
Help for
Undergraduate, Higher Vocational Qualification and Masters Degree
Students
Sometimes
students on a university course run into problems either with a final
year project or with a particularly tough programming assignment,
where, sometimes, sadly the lecturer has not explained everything as
clearly as they might have liked and who are struggling with their
assignment.
An example at undergraduate level was a very bright student who, based on work experience, had undertaken as his final year project the implementation of a "web page scraper" in C# that would extract salient marketing and advertising features from targetted web pages and then feed that data into a Microsoft SQL server database.
We do not write or help write code or text for such assignments.
In this case what was needed was an intensive 5 day course that covered various approaches to tackling the problems that needed to be solved, and filled in gaps where certain topics had simply not been covered as part of his course.
Another case involved a student on a tough masters course in numerical analysis.
He had been set an assignment at relatively short notice, and it was apparent from the course lecture materials I read that some of the more subtle issues associated with using C++ template programming required to solve partial differential equations problems had simply not been covered.
An intensive one day course filled in any gaps in his knowledge and gave him the confidence to complete the assignment.
